Top 45 Female African Bloggers
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to the Afrigator RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Ever wondered who the top female bloggers are in Africa, or which women you should be following online? We did, so we compiled the following list. For us compiling this list was an interesting excercise as we didn’t explicity know which blogs are authored by woman but we went on a mission to find out.
While this list is not the be all and end all it does provide some interesting insight into which female blogs you could/should be watching. It’s clear that South African female bloggers dominate the list but I am very pleased to see Nigeria, Kenya, Eqypt, Uganda and Ethiopia make it on the list.

Caveats
The ranking is taken directly from the top blogs section as ranked by Afrigator’s unique ranking system which takes into consideration page views, unique visits, links from blog posts and finally links from blogs to formulate an overall rank on Afrigator.
This list is accurate as at Friday 17 October and is subject to change almost immediately. The reason for this is that our ranking system updates every four hours and this will affect overall ranking as well as ranking in each specific country.

It’s great to see the Afrigator team take the time to make such a list. Top drawer!
It would also be interesting to know what type of blogs these are (i.e. what categories they fall under). Would I be right in saying that they are mostly “life” blogs?
It’s also interesting to learn that Afrigator updates every four hours (the ranking system at least). A little off topic, but have you guys (and girls) ever thought about creating a manual ping option for bloggers who use Afrigator?
I really appreciate your site and am excited about it’s recent development(s). Keep up the good work!
Warm regards
Galen

With respect, guys. Perhaps a more appropriate title would be “Top 45 Female African Bloggers, who are tracked by Afrigator”.
Top of my head, I can name 5 female African bloggers who I’d *much* rather read than some of the 45, and who have large audiences. I know it’s meant as kudo’s by you, but the non-qualified title puts down some awesome African Female bloggers.

One correction, ‘Through My Own Eyes’ is a blog with the URL – http://www.deshantan.blogspot.com/ – Last time I checked, ‘Deshantan’ was a boys name, not so? Regardless, I’m sure he’s stoked with the free link love
Research carefully
I also agree with Andre, these are Afrigator tracked blogs, if this were the case, I’d be the no2 blog in Africa, which is definitely not correct!
Good post though! Us bloggers are stats junkies afterall.

@Andre I hear what you are saying but on the flip side it might encourage other African female bloggers to be a part of the list. In our caveats we clearly state where and how this list was made and to be honest as the post comes from Afrigator it’s a little stupid to add “as ranked by Afrigator” to a title.

@andre We’re not out to try to put down the bloggers we don’t know, but rather give props to the ones we do know. I agree with Feisty Female, drop us a comment with links to some of the great blogs you know of, so we to can share in their writing.
@Chris, sadly, we don’t have a gender indicator in our db (yet) so most of this required going to the blogger’s page and checking it out. ‘Deshantan’ is a guy’s name but ‘Deshanta’ is a girl’s (in one case Deshanta Naidoo) so you can see how easy it was to get a little mixed up. As we said it was a manual exercise, so we apologize for any errors.

Nice list, guys! There are also some awesome blogs by ZA women on craft and design — have a look at http://www.skinnylaminx.com (by Heather Moore who also does the Elle Decor blog) and fa.mielie.com, both of which will send you off in other directions as well. The craft bloggers don’t get much recognition in the geekier end of the ZA blog community but they’re very well-connected. Influential, even (at the risk of restarting a tired debate

Congrats to all listed here. Many of these blogs are unknown to me, so I’m going to have fun visiting them.
I’m going to take a wild stab, though, and guess that you don’t have a corresponding list of Top 45 Male bloggers, because, by default bloggers are male, unless otherwise specified, right? Right?
@Lester Hein: I think you should absolutely rectify your lack of full personal details in your database of bloggers. In addition to capturing gender information, I think you need to add birthday, star sign, and turn ons, just so we are all on the same page, mkay?

Hey – thrilled to find myself on the list! But i do agree that the title needs to be more accurate – these are the top 45 African female blogs RANKED BY AFRIGATOR….
Agree with a previous commenter that the SA blogging scene seems to be so fragmented, with each niche just ploughing their own furrow as if the other niches don’t exist, and the general public thinking all blogs are either political or 20-something guys posting jokes and lots of pics of Paris Hilton. Lovely to see some under-exposed blogs given a bit of a spotlight – I can see some additions to my blogroll looming!!

Hi ladie1
We do not determine the country of origin when a blogger signs up – this is up to the blogger to chose when joining Afrigator. The ranking of Ladybrille has little to do with the country of origin and more to do with traffic and links from other blogs.
This is how we formulated the list. I hope this clarifies things for you?

Hi Ethan,
Thank you and your Afrigator team. That must have been lots and lots of work vetting and just researching all that. We are flattered!! Yes, the owner of Ladybrille is Uduak Oduok, yours truly writing this note. I am indeed of Nigerian heritage and based in California, USA.
Justin you mention an affiliation by country is done by the blogger when they sign up. I will check it out if I can remember the password etc. I signed up for Afrigator a long long time ago when I was so not internet savvy, at all!
Thank you. Again, we are honored and myself and my team work quite hard so it is great to see people are reading and paying attention.
Cheers,
