Happy GatorFriday

I love Fridays – the weekend is coming, the office has a nice excited buzz and everyone is generally in a good mood. It’s also the day I get to goof off on the net for a bit and find cool stuff for this post. In today’s GatorFriday we have aliens, Microsoft and a rabbit. Sounds like a winning combination to me :)
So go on, have a read, have a laugh and most importantly – have a great weekend!

DISTRICT 9 – Aliens are coming to South Africa.

I must admit that I was a little in the dark on this one. Peter Jackson (the lord of the Lord Of The Rings) has produced a movie in South Africa about alien refugees living in South Africa. From the trailer it looks half way cool, half way cheesy. I’m looking forward to seeing what the film does. District 9 opens on August 15. You can watch the trailer below.

Be vewwy vewwy quiet

Adele found this adorable clip of the letter opening rabbit at MIT. I think that we need to get one for the GatorPen. We just need to teach the little guy to open email without damaging our laptops ;)

Microsoft here, can I take your order?

While I was reading The Brave Prgrammer’s blog, I found this joke about what would happen if restaurants were run by Microsoft.

You have to love and hate Microsoft at the same time. One thing about being so big and popular is that there will always be someone to take the micky out of you. Here is a light hearted look at Microsoft from a restaurants point of view. Have fun and enjoy.

Patron: Waiter!

Waiter: Hi, my name is Bill, and I’ll be your Support Waiter. What seems to be the problem?

Patron: There’s a fly in my soup!

Waiter: Try again, maybe the fly won’t be there this time.

Patron: No, it’s still there.

Waiter: Maybe it’s the way you’re using the soup; try eating it with a fork instead.

Patron: Even when I use the fork, the fly is still there.

Waiter: Maybe the soup is incompatible with the bowl; what kind of bowl are you using?

Patron: A SOUP bowl!

Waiter: Hmmm, that should work. Maybe it’s a configuration problem; how was the bowl set up?

Patron: You brought it to me on a saucer; what has that to do with the fly in my soup?!

Waiter: Can you remember everything you did before you noticed the fly in your soup?

Patron: I sat down and ordered the Soup of the Day!

Waiter: Have you considered upgrading to the latest Soup of the Day?

Patron: You have more than one Soup of the Day each day??

Waiter: Yes, the Soup of the Day is changed every hour.

Patron: Well, what is the Soup of the Day now?

Waiter: The current Soup of the Day is tomato.

Patron: Fine. Bring me the tomato soup, and the check. I’m running late now.

Waiter leaves and returns with another bowl of soup and the check.

Waiter: Here you are, Sir. The soup and your check.

Patron: This is potato soup.

Waiter: Yes, the tomato soup wasn’t ready yet.

Patron: Well, I’m so hungry now, I’ll eat anything.

Waiter leaves.

Patron: Waiter! There’s a gnat in my soup!

The check:
Soup of the Day …………………………….. $5.00
Upgrade to newer Soup of the Day ……………… $2.50

Access to support …………………………… $1.00

Happy GatorFriday

Friday’s are both a blessing and a curse here at the GatorPen. On the one hand – IT’S THE WEEKEND BABY! And on the other, there’s just sooo much cool stuff still to see , do and build here at. The idea for these GatorFriday posts is to let you know what we found cool, funny or cute this week, but more often than not there are folks out there that are smarter and cooler than us (but only just).

So, I’m going to have to figure out an easy way to sift and sort through all the cool content we’re receiving. Another challenge is THE LINE. I have bad eyesight when it comes to the line as I have a very hard time seeing it. We don’t want to offend anyone, but sometimes the funniest acts are the taboo. So, if we upset you with any of our GatorFriday stuff, please drop us a line or a comment and let us know.

From Stii – Russia’s got Talent (more like Russia had talent!)

We’re not sure if this video is real (there are mixed reports) but either way – you have to wonder what was going through somebody’s mind (other than an arrow).

From Adele – Sidewalk Chalk Art

“Hey :) I stumbled upon another chalk drawing and its even better than last week, thought I’d share :) ” ~ Adele

Adele likes chalk art

From Lester – LandRovers are cool.

My friend Kate is always telling me how cool Landies are and when I saw this clip, I had to admit that  it is pretty wicked! I bet a Hummer can’t do that (in addition to using a regular sized parking bay)

Justin and Mamello have been too busy with “real work” for me to bug them today, but I promise I’ll hassle them a bit more next week!

From us here at the #GatorPen, we wish you a great, safe and fun weekend :) And remember – don’t just talk about it, blog about it!

Michael Jackson dies at age 50

The king is dead, long live the king. Today is a sad day for the entertainment world as well for me personally. Michael Jackson, the king of pop has passed away at age 50.

A fellow blogger made a point in his blog that I felt I could relate to:

I guess with an iconic figure like Michael, you never think that someone like that really can die. I know it’s a silly thought, but that’s what goes through your mind the first time.

My best friend Damien, who is just as much of a Jacko fan as I am has posted an update on his facebook wall for each of Michael Jackson’s major achievements.

Picture 1

I don’t think that there’s too much that we can or should say about the king of pop. His work and life speaks volumes with any words needing to be said. He inspired millions to pick up an instrument or grab the mic. Countless wannabe moonwalkers can look back and laugh at that time they tried to do a Micheal. Guys and girls everywhere wore too-short pants with white socks and even whiter T-shirts. And let’s not even get started on the amount of crotch grabbing and leg flailing he inspired …

For an indication of just how successful Michael Jackson was, have a look at this list of the best selling albums of all time:

In short, Micheal Jackson impacted the music business and the world in a way not seen since Elvis. Thinking about it now, I can kind of understand how a previous generation felt when their king went to rest.

Rest in peace.
